Shutterstock Will Pay $35 Million to Settle FTC Allegations About Unfair, Deceptive Practices

  Shutterstock will pay $35 million to settle Federal Trade Commission allegations that the digital photo and video platform illegally made tens of millions of dollars from unfair and deceptive trade practices. 



  According to the FTC's complaint, which was filed on Wednesday, Shutterstock charged consumers for products without their informed consent and made it difficult to cancel subscriptions. Shutterstock also failed to clearly disclose material terms before billing, the FTC alleged. 



  New York-based Shutterstock advertised on-demand packs and failed to adequately disclose that the packs they were offering automatically renewed when the last download was used, and that until early 2024 they automatically renewed after one year. 



  Shutterstock did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
