Bharti Airtel Net Profit Falls, Revenue Rises Boosted by India and Africa
By Najat Kantouar
Bharti Airtel reported lower fourth-quarter net profit but higher revenue boosted by continued growth in India and a robust performance in Africa.
The Indian telecom company said Wednesday that net profit for the three months ended March 31 fell to 73.25 billion rupees ($765.9 million) from 110.22 billion rupees for the same period a year earlier.
That missed the estimate of 79.27 billion rupees in a poll of analysts by Visible Alpha.
Revenue increased to 553.83 billion rupees from 478.76 billion rupees. This represents an increase of 15.7% on-year and 2.6% on a quarter-on-quarter basis, it said.
Revenue for the Airtel Business unit grew 2.6% on quarter, driven by both connectivity and solid growth in its digital services portfolio, it said.
