Hertz, Uber to Partner on Robotaxi Fleet Management
By Nicholas G. Miller
Hertz and Uber are partnering on robotaxi fleet management.
Hertz's affiliated company Oro Mobility will provide day-to-day vehicle asset management, including charging, maintenance, repairs, cleaning, and depot staffing, for Uber's autonomous robotaxi program of Lucid vehicles.
A robotaxi refers to a self-driving, or driverless vehicle.
Services will launch in the San Francisco Bay Area later this year.
As part of a separate partnership, Oro will also offer fleet services on the Uber platform, utilizing vehicles operated by Oro-employed drivers to help Uber meet increasing rider demand.
Following a pilot in Atlanta last year, Oro is now also active on the Uber platform in Los Angeles and San Francisco, with Northern New Jersey expected to launch this spring.
