AIA Group's 1Q New Business Value Grows in Key Markets
By P.R. Venkat
AIA Group's new business value rose in the first quarter, supported by double-digit growth in key markets such as China and Hong Kong.
The value of new business in the first quarter was $1.76 billion, compared with $1.50 billion in the same period last year, the insurer said Thursday.
New-business margin fell 1.8 percentage points, to 56.0%.
Businesses in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations region, including Singapore and Malaysia, also delivered positive growth, the company said.
"Our performance was broad-based with all reportable segments other than Thailand achieving year-on-year growth," AIA chief executive Lee Yuan Siong said.
Thailand's value of new business fell 18% due to an exceptionally high base in the same period a year earlier.
