United Microelectronics Shares Rise on Higher 1Q Profit, Revenue

United Microelectronics American depository notes rose after the company lifted its results in the first quarter.
The Taiwan-based semiconductor company's ADRs rose 8.3% in midday trading to$12.64. The company's ADRs reached a 52-week high of $13.39 on Wednesday.
The company reported on Wednesday a fiscal first-quarter profit of $16.12 billion in New Taiwan dollars, or about $510 million USD, compared with a profit of $7.78 billion TWD, or $244.7 million in the year-ago quarter.
Earnings per ADS were $6.45 TWD, or 20 cents USD, compared with $3.10 TWD, or 10 cents USD, a year earlier. Analysts were expecting 13 cents USD.
Revenue increased 5.5% to $61.04 billion TWD, or $1.93 billion USD. Analysts were expecting $1.93 billion USD.
