America Movil 1Q Profit Rises on Lower Financial Costs

MEXICO CITY--America Movil posted a 25% increase in first-quarter net profit on higher revenue and a decline in financial costs.
Latin America's largest telecommunications company reported net profit of 23.4 billion Mexican pesos ($1.35 billion) for the January-March period, up from MXN18.7 billion pesos in the year-earlier quarter. First-quarter profit was equivalent to MXN0.39 a share or $0.44 an American depositary receipt.
Revenue rose 2.1% to MXN236.84 billion. In constant currency terms, revenue rose 6.1% with service revenue increasing 4.6% and equipment revenue up 11.3%.
Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization, a measure of profitability, rose 3.8% to MXN94.5 billion.
The company added 3 million mobile subscribers across Latin America and the Caribbean, Austria and Eastern Europe during the quarter, ending March with 334.5 million. Fixed-line subscriptions rose by 541,000 to 79.7 million.
