Rupert Resources, Aurion Resources Jump on Agnico Eagle Mines Acquisition
By Adriano Marchese
Shares of Rupert Resources and Aurion Resources surged after Agnico Eagle Mines moved to acquire both companies as it looks to consolidate properties in Finland's Central Lapland Belt.
Rupert Resources shares jumped by 62% to 11.63 Canadian dollars ($8.49), and Aurion shares rose 44% on the TSX Venture to C$2.57.
Agnico, a Canadian gold miner, said Monday that it is acquiring Rupert Resources and Aurion Resources.
Rupert's Ikkari gold project is in active development, and completed a full pre-feasibility study in February 2025 confirming a 3.5-million-ounce probable resource base.
Aurion owns a 30% in the Fingold Ventures joint venture. Agnico will also purchase B2Gold's 70% stake in the Fingold Ventures joint venture, bringing its ownership to 100% of the JV.
Agnico said that the consolidated JV property is a large land position with what it calls significant exploration upside across a number of targets that have already shown to have positive exploration results.
For the Rupert portion of the transaction, Agnico will offer a total upfront consideration valued at C$2.87 billion, which is made up of 0.0401 of its common shares and up to C$3.00 in the form of a contingent value right payable upon specified milestones.
For Aurion, Agnico will pay C$2.60 in cash for each Aurion share for a total consideration of C$481 million.
Agnico Eagle shares fell 3.7% in Toronto to C$290.30.
