United Therapeutics Lung Disease Drug Study Meets Primary Endpoint

By Nicholas G. Miller

A study of United Therapeutics' drug to treat idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a lung disease, met its primary efficacy endpoint.

Shares were up 15% to $600 in premarket trading.

United Therapeutics said the drug, nebulized Tyvaso, demonstrated superiority over placebo for the change in absolute forced vital capacity, a measure of lung function, by 130.1 milliliters and reduced the risk of clinical worsening, with positive results observed across all subgroups.

United Therapeutics plans to seek priority review of a supplemental new drug application, to be submitted to the Food and Drug Administration by the end of this summer, to add IPF to the labeled indications for nebulized Tyvaso, the company said.
