Swisscom, Telecom Italia Partner to Build Mobile Phone Towers in Italy

Swisscom's Fastweb + Vodafone and Telecom Italia signed an agreement for the joint development of new mobile phone towers in Italy, also aiming to accelerate the nationwide roll-out of 5G.
The Swiss telecommunications provider on Thursday said the initiative will initially be implemented through a 50/50 joint venture structure, with the intention to add third-party investors to further improve capital efficiency.
The project foresees the building of up to 6,000 new sites, with construction expected to take place in phased deployment over multiple years, Swisscom said.
The project will also offer access to other providers of telecommunication services, it said.
Financing of the project will be covered through a combination of equity from third-party investors and debt, and will have no impact on Swisscom's free cash flow and guidance, it added.
The collaboration aims to improve operational efficiency and bring costs into line with the European average, Telecom Italia said in a separate statement.
