Johnson & Johnson Gets FDA Approval for Icotyde in Plaque Psoriasis
By Colin Kellaher
Johnson & Johnson has won U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval of its Icotyde treatment for certain patients with moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis, a chronic autoimmune condition that causes itchy, painful skin patches.
J&J on Wednesday said the approval covers Icotyde in adults and pediatric patients 12 years of age and older who weigh at least 40 kilograms who are candidates for systemic therapy or phototherapy.
The New Brunswick, N.J., healthcare giant said the green light makes Icotyde the first and only approved targeted oral peptide that precisely blocks the interleukin-23 receptor, which contributes to the inflammatory process of several inflammatory autoimmune disorders.
J&J is developing Icotyde as part of a 2017 partnership with Protagonist Therapeutics and has the exclusive rights to commercialize the drug.
