Italian Insurer Generali Posts Rise in Profit on Growth Across Segments
By Elena Vardon
Assicurazioni Generali posted a rise in its profits for 2025 on the performance of all of its units.
The Italian insurer on Thursday reported a 12% increase in net profit for the year to 4.17 billion euros ($4.82 billion). On an adjusted basis, net profit rose 14.5% on year to 4.315 billion euros.
Operating profit--a metric closely watched by analysts and investors--increased 9.7% to 8.00 billion euros, benefiting from double-digit growth in its property and casualty segment, in part due to a lower impact from natural catastrophes, it said.
Gross written premiums rose to 98.12 billion euros from 95.19 billion euros a year prior.
Generali, which makes most of its profit from Italy, France, Germany and Central and Eastern Europe, was expected to post a net profit of 4.225 billion euros, operating profit of 7.965 billion euros and gross written premiums of 98.86 billion euros, according to a company-compiled consensus.
Its solvency ratio--a measure of capital strength--stood at 219%, while consensus penciled in a 212% ratio.
The group proposed a dividend of 1.64 euros a share and said it would launch a 500 million-euro share buyback this year.
