Renault to Refresh Car Lineup in International Push
By Adria Calatayud
Renault said it plans to launch 36 new models by the end of this decade, as the French carmaker looks beyond Europe to drive growth at a time when competition in its core markets is heating up.
The company said Tuesday that it would launch 22 new models in Europe--including 16 electric vehicles--and 14 in international markets over the next five years.
In the first strategy update since Francois Provost took the wheel last year after former boss Luca de Meo moved to luxury group Kering, Renault said it would slash the cost of EVs and extend its hybrid technology beyond 2030.
The rapid growth of Chinese carmakers like BYD in Europe is fueling concerns among investors about price competition that could weigh on the industry's profitability.
Renault reiterated its midterm profitability target and said it is seeking to maintain its growth dynamic. It aims to deliver an operating margin of between 5% and 7% over the medium term, which compares with 6.3% last year and 7.6% in 2024.
The company said it would seek to maintain a strong base in Europe, but that it would continue an international expansion by turning to its growth hubs in India, South America and South Korea. Renault said it aims to be present in 55% of the global car market, excluding the U.S. and China.
