Microsoft, Codelco Team Up on AI, Data, Security Initiatives

By Elias Schisgall

Microsoft and the Chilean state-run copper mining company Codelco signed an agreement to explore joint initiatives in artificial intelligence, data analytics, automation and cybersecurity.

The agreement will initially last for 18 months and will have a joint governance structure. The companies intend to focus on advancing large-scale data analytics, automating critical processes, improving digital security measures, and training programs for workers.

The agreement also leaves the door open for pilot projects or early testing of new technological solutions, the companies said.

Codelco and Microsoft have had a working relationship for more than 27 years and have collaborated on projects in the past, the companies said Thursday. The agreement was signed by Codelco Chief Executive Rubén Alvarado and Tito Arciniega, the president of Microsoft Latin America.
