CPP Investments, Equinix in $4 Billion Deal to Buy Nordic Data-Center Operator atNorth — Update

By Aimee Look

CPP Investments and digital-infrastructure company Equinix agreed to jointly acquire Nordic data-center operator atNorth for $4 billion, including debt.

AtNorth owner Partners Group, which bought the company in 2022, said that it had committed to reinvest and buy back up to 10% of the data-center operator after the sale.

The Canada Pension Plan Investment Board will invest $1.6 billion for a 60% stake, while digital infrastructure company Equinix will own a 40% stake, the companies said in a separate release on Friday. The two companies have collaborated in similar deals in the past, like a joint venture in 2024 with GIC to expand Equinix's data center program, they said.

AtNorth operates multiple sites in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden.

"The investment further enhances CPP Investments' global data center strategy and builds out its presence in Europe," the investment arm of the Canada Pension Plan said. Equinix said the deal would bolster its existing data-center operations in the Nordics.

Equinix, CPP Investments and AtNorth weren't immediately available for further comment.
