AES, Google Agree to Power-Generation Deals Tied to Texas Data Center
By Nicholas G. Miller
AES agreed to pacts with Google to generate energy alongside a new Google data center in Wilbarger County, Texas.
The two companies formed 20-year power-purchase agreements for the power-generation project.
Energy company AES secured the land and interconnection agreements and will build the electricity infrastructure for the facility. AES will also own and operate the energy-generation infrastructure and will provide retail, cost optimization and related services to the data center.
"In partnership with AES, we are bringing new clean generation online directly alongside the data center to minimize local grid impact and protect energy affordability," said Amanda Peterson Corio, head of data-center energy for Google, which is owned by Alphabet.
