Loblaw to Spend C$2.4 Billion on New Stores, Renovations in 2026
By Adriano Marchese
Loblaw has laid out its 2.4 billion Canadian dollar ($1.75 billion) investment plan to build dozens of new stores with a focus on its value banners, while also renovating nearly 200 existing locations this year.
The Canadian grocer said Monday that plans to open 70 new stores across Canada, including 34 Shoppers Drug Mart and Pharmaprix pharmacies and care clinics, as well as 31 discount grocery stores under the No Frills and Maxi banners.
Ontario and Quebec are the provinces set to see the biggest expansion, with 27 and 15 new stores, respectively, while Loblaw plans to add 24 locations in Western Canada and four more in Eastern Canada.
Loblaw is tapping into the trend of Canadian shoppers that have steadily gravitated toward discount grocers and private-label goods as pandemic-era inflation reshaped household budgets, and pushed them to seek out value in their everyday purchases.
The company also has plans to renovate another 191 stores, and said it continues to progress the construction of its large automated distribution center in Caledon, Ontario.
The investment is part of Loblaw's broader five-year plan to spend C$10 billion by 2030.
