Brambles Raises Dividend, Cash-Flow Guidance as 1st Half Profit Jumps
By Stuart Condie
SYDNEY--Global pallet supplier Brambles raised its dividend and its full-year cash flow guidance after a stronger-than-expected rise in first-half profit.
Australia-listed Brambles, which reports in U.S. dollars, on Thursday reported an underlying net profit for the six months through December of $792.0 million.
That was up by 11% on the prior year, or by 7% once currency moves were stripped out.
The average analyst forecast had been for an underlying profit of $787.0 million, according to data compiled by Visible Alpha.
On a statutory basis, Brambles reported a net profit of $510.8 million off revenue of $3.53 billion. Consensus had been for a net profit of $489.8 million off revenue of $3.56 billion.
Brambles declared an interim dividend of 23 U.S. cents, up from 19 cents a year ago, beating the average forecast of 21.5 cents.
The company said that the increased payout reflected strong free cash flow before dividends, which rose 12% to $481.7 million.
Brambles said it now expected full-year free cash flow before dividends of between $950 million and $1.1 billion, compared with prior guidance of between $850 million and $950 million.
