Impala Platinum's Earnings Soar on Higher Prices

Impala Platinum said earnings soared in its fiscal first half, driven by higher prices and an improved operational performance.
The South African platinum miner said it expects to post headline and basic earnings of between 9.10 billion and 9.45 billion South African rand ($565.7 million-$587.4 million) for the six months through Dec. 31. For the same period a year earlier, the company posted headline earnings of 1.85 billion rand and basic earnings of 1.87 billion rand.
Headline earnings per share and basic EPS are expected at between 10.15 and 10.54 rand, Impala Platinum said Tuesday. In the same period the year prior, the company posted headline EPS of 2.06 rand and basic EPS of 2.08 rand.
