Takeda Posts Sharply Higher Quarterly Profit, Raises Annual Guidance

By Kosaku Narioka

Takeda Pharmaceutical reported sharply higher quarterly net profit and raised its annual earnings guidance.

The Japanese drugmaker said Thursday that net profit more than quadrupled to 103.6 billion yen, equivalent to $675.3 million, for the three months ended December.

That was below the estimate of Y107.9 billion in a poll of analysts by data provider Visible Alpha. For the year-ago period, the company reported net profit of Y23.8 billion, which was partly weighed by restructuring expenses.

Third-quarter revenue grew 4.2% from a year earlier to Y1.192 trillion.

For the fiscal year ending March, it projected revenue to decline 1.1% to Y4.530 trillion and net profit to climb 43% to Y154.00 billion. The company previously forecast revenue of Y4.500 trillion and net profit of Y153.00 billion.
