NextEra 4Q Net Income Up, Company Backs '26 Adjusted EPS View on Strong Demand

By Rob Curran

NextEra Energy's fourth-quarter net income rose as demand for electricity increased among residential and industrial customers, and as the power giant reiterated its 2026 adjusted earnings forecast and projected long-term gains from the artificial-intelligence boom.

The Juno Beach, Fla., utility and nuclear-power producer posted earnings of $1.54 billion, or 73 cents a share, up from $1.2 billion or 58 cents a share, a year earlier.

Stripping out one-time items, NextEra logged adjusted earnings of 54 cents a share, edging the average analyst target of 53 cents a share, as per FactSet.

Revenue rose to $6.5 billion, short of the average Wall Street target of $6.73 billion.

Florida Power & Light, NextEra's biggest unit and the largest U.S. electric utility by customers, posted earnings of $958 million for the period. NextEra Energy Resources, NextEra's renewable-energy arm, logged earnings of $545 million. During the quarter, NextEra Energy Resources increased its stake in the Mountain Valley natural-gas pipeline, acquiring some of its partner Constellation Energy's interest.

NextEra reiterated its forecast for 2026 adjusted earnings in a range between $3.92 and $4.02 a share. The company continues to expect compound annual growth in adjusted earnings per share of 8% or more annually through 2032, a trend it now expects to continue between 2032 and 2035. Those projections are all based on the 2025 adjusted earnings tally of $3.71 a share.

In 2025, NextEra struck supply deals with Alphabet's Google, tapping nuclear power to meet the voracious electricity demands of artificial intelligence. In one deal, a NextEra unit entered into a 25-year power purchase agreement with Google for electricity produced by the Duane Arnold nuclear plant in Palo, Iowa, which NextEra is recommissioning.
