Spanish Prime Minister Cancels Trip to Davos Due to Fatal Train Collision
By Cristina Gallardo
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez canceled his trip to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, after a fatal collision between two high-speed trains in southern Spain.
Sanchez was scheduled to give a keynote speech at the event on Wednesday, where he was expected to join President Trump and fellow European leaders at a moment of heightened tensions within the North Atlantic Treaty Organization over the U.S.'s calls to gain control of Greenland.
However, a spokeswoman for Sanchez said the social democrat prime minister cancelled his trip due to the accident on Sunday.
The collision, which took place in the province of Cordoba, has killed at least 39 people and injured dozens so far, Spanish Transport Minister Oscar Puente said.
On Sunday, Sanchez expressed condolences to the victims' families. "This is a night of deep pain for our country due to the tragic train accident in Adamuz," he said on X.
