Prudential Picks Former HSBC Veteran Douglas Flint as Next Board Chair

By Megan Cheah

Prudential has named banking veteran Douglas Flint as its next board chair, succeeding Shriti Vadera following the London-based insurer's annual general meeting in May.

He is set to join the board in March, subject to regulatory approval, as a nonexecutive director and chair-designate to ensure an "orderly handover" before Vadera retires, Prudential said Wednesday.

Flint spent more than two decades at lender HSBC, serving as its group finance director from 1995 to 2010 and subsequently as group chair until 2017, the statement said. He has chaired U.K.-based investment company Aberdeen Group since 2019 and intellectual-property business IP Group since 2018.

Flint's extensive experience leading global financial institutions and deep expertise in Asia make him "ideally positioned to lead the next stage of the group's development," said Prudential senior independent director Jeremy Anderson, who led the search for Vadera's successor.
