South Korea to Allow Around-The-Clock Forex Trading From July

By Kwanwoo Jun

South Korea plans to operate its local foreign-exchange market around the clock from July, the Ministry of Economy and Finance said Friday.

The plan to allow won trading on a 24-hour basis from the second half was included in the ministry's 2026 growth strategy report that also lists various measures to improve and advance the country's financial systems.

The country's forex market currently runs for 17 hours daily from 9 a.m. through 2 a.m. local time on weekdays.

Limited foreign-exchange trading in South Korea has been one of the stumbling blocks to the country's push for a market upgrade by global market index provider MSCI.

South Korea has recently eased rules to allow foreign financial institutions and investors better access to its money markets in a push to get the country upgraded to developed-market status by MSCI.
