Honeywell Flags 4Q Hit Due to Possible Flexjet Settlement Charge

By Robb M. Stewart

Honeywell International warned sales in the final quarter could be squeezed by potential settlement costs related to an ongoing legal dispute with Flexjet.

The aerospace-technology company in a regulatory filing Monday said that based on negotiations to date it expects to book a one-time charge that will reduce quarterly sales by about $310 million and operating income by roughly $370 million. It said the charge wouldn't impact underlying financial metrics.

Any comprehensive settlements will include one-time cash payments totaling about $470 million, Honeywell said.

Private jet operator Flexjet in March sued Honeywell alleging a breach of an engine-maintenance service agreement, seeking liquidated damages for delayed engine repairs. Honewell maintains aircraft engine maintenance service contracts with Flexjet.

Settlement negotiations between Honeywell, Flexjet and the other parties to the litigation continue.
