Asset Manager M&G Investments Launches Asian Fixed-Income Fund

By Megan Cheah

Asset Manager M&G Investments has launched a new Asian fixed-income fund as it seeks to broaden its offerings amid investor interest in the region's bonds.

The M&G (Lux) Asian Quality Income Fund comes under the London-based investment company's global public fixed income team, which manages $188.4 billion as of June 30, M&G Investments, which is part of U.K.'s M&G, said Wednesday.

The fund will focus on developed and emerging Asian markets, investing in U.S.-dollar denominated investment grade corporate bonds. It seeks to deliver capital growth and income over a three-year horizon, while applying ESG considerations.

Asia, excluding Japan, remains underrepresented in global corporate bond benchmarks, which M&G Investments sees as a long-term opportunity for investors as regional credit markets mature.

Asian investment grade credit offers both resilient income and diversification, said Andrew Chorlton, chief investment officer of fixed income at M&G Investments.

"This new strategy reflects our commitment to expanding M&G's global credit reach--especially in Asia--building on the momentum of our China corporate bond strategy," he added.

The fresh fund also deepens its cooperation with Guotai Haitong Securities, as some of the China-based company's units will provide support on non-discretionary advisory and distribution to professional investors, M&G Investments said.
