U.K. Car Manufacturing Falls After Cyberattack on Jaguar Land Rover
By Ian Walker
U.K. car manufacturing fell in October as Jaguar Land Rover restarted operations following the cyberattack in August that disrupted its production lines, according to an industry body.
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders said Friday that 59,010 cars rolled off U.K. production lines in October compared with 77,484 for the same month last year. This takes the year-to-date figure to 602,109 cars compared with 670,346 for the same period a year earlier.
Of those cars, 46% were either battery electric, plug-in hybrid or hybrid, with volumes up 10% to 27,287 units, the SMMT said.
Some 3,106 commercial vehicles were produced in the month compared with 12,387 in October 2024, the SMMT said.
Jaguar--owned by India's Tata Motors--discovered a cyberattack in late August, forcing the company to shut down its computer systems and halt production. It restarted production on Oct. 8.
