CME Restarts Foreign-Exchange Platform After Trading Halt

By Adria Calatayud

CME Group said it restarted a foreign-exchange platform as it moves to restore operations after a tech outage disrupted some futures markets for assets ranging from U.S. stocks and Treasurys to commodities like oil.

EBS--a wholesale electronic trading platform for foreign-exchange that is part of CME Group--was open as of 1200 GMT, or 0700 ET, on Friday, according to an alert on the exchange operator's website.

CME had earlier said it had reopened fixed-income platforms BrokerTec US Actives and BrokerTec EU, with all other markets halted due to a cooling issue at a data center operated by CyrusOne.

CyrusOne said it was actively responding to an issue at a data center in the Chicago area behind the CME outage, with teams working to restore normal operations as quickly and possible. The issue was caused by a chiller plant failure affecting multiple cooling units, CyrusOne added.
