QBE Announces A$450 Million Buyback, Active Capital Management
By Stuart Condie
SYDNEY--Australia's QBE Insurance disclosed plans for a US$291.2 million on-market share buyback and said it will seek to more actively manage capital to optimize returns.
The ASX-listed company on Thursday said it would start buying back shares totaling 450 million Australian dollars in December and continue through 2026. It said the buyback would be funded by surplus capital.
"Based on our medium-term outlook for further mid-single-digit volume growth plus a continuation of strong returns, a more active stance on capital management will be required to ensure group capital, performance and returns are fully optimized," QBE said.
The insurer, which also operates in the U.S., reiterated its 2025 guidance. It also said it expects a 2026 combined operating ratio of about 92.5%, which is in-line with its 2025 outlook.
