Iron Ore Rises; Prices Continue to Fluctuate -- Market Talk
0258 GMT - Iron ore rises in Asian morning trading, with the most-traded iron-ore contract on the Dalian Commodity Exchange 0.8% higher at 793.50 yuan a ton. Volatility in iron ore prices has persisted, Nanhua Futures analysts say in commentary. However, short-term prices for iron ore have remained firm, driven by moves higher in coking coal due to tighter supply in China and reduced shipments from Mongolia, they say. Both iron ore and coking coal are inputs for steelmaking. Nanhua Futures adds that Chinese authorities have recently shifted toward ensuring coking coal supply and stabilizing prices. Oil Falls as Concerns of More Supply Weigh
0022 GMT - Oil prices are lower in early Asian trade amid concerns of more supply hitting the market. Oil traders are becoming increasingly concerned that a peace deal drafted by the U.S. and Russia aimed at ending the war in Ukraine could see sanctioned oil back on the market, ANZ research analysts say in a research note. Whether a deal is reached or not, the analysts note that there are increasing doubts over the effectiveness of the U.S. sanctions. Front-month WTI is down 0.5% at $57.77/bbl, and Brent is also 0.5% lower at $62.25/bbl. (sherry.qin@wsj.com)
