Inhibikase Shares Climb After Revised Drug Timeline, Public Offering
By Connor Hart
Shares of Inhibikase Therapeutics climbed after the company said it revised the study plan for its in-development treatment for high blood pressure, and priced an underwritten public offering of shares of its common stock.
The stock rose 9.8%, to $1.68, in premarket trading Friday. Through Thursday's close, shares have lost more than half of their value year to date.
The pharmaceutical company late Thursday said it expects to advance its therapy for pulmonary arterial hypertension, IKT-001, to a Phase 3 trial starting early next year.
Pulmonary arterial hypertension is a specific type of high blood pressure, in which blood vessels in the lungs are narrowed, blocked or destroyed. That damage makes it harder for blood to move through the lungs, forcing the heart to work harder.
Inhibikase had previously planned a Phase 2b study for the drug, but the company revised plans following feedback from the Food and Drug Administration, the company said.
"Our revised study plan for IKT-001 in pulmonary arterial hypertension permits a single pivotal study format and thereby has the potential to advance our timeline to Phase 3 topline data readout and a potential new-drug application filing by approximately three years," Chief Executive Mark Iwicki said.
Separately, Inhibikase after Thursday's closing bell said it has commenced an underwritten public offering of shares of its common stock and prefunded warrants.
The Wilmington, Del., company said it will sell about 46.1 million shares of its common stock for $1.45 apiece, as well as prefunded warrants to purchase about 22.9 million shares of common stock, also for $1.45 apiece.
Inhibikase will also grant underwriters a 30-day option to purchase up to about 10.3 million additional shares of its common stock at the public-offering price, minus discounts and commissions.
The company expects gross proceeds of about $100 million from the offering.
