Siemens Energy Shares Rise After Buyback
By Maitane Sardon
Shares in Siemens Energy rose after the German energy company said it plans to buy back up to 6 billion euros ($6.92 billion) of its own shares over the next three years.
Siemens' announcement came a week after it upgraded its financial targets for its fiscal 2028, signaling confidence it can deliver on the new targets while freeing up cash along the way.
Shares climbed 5.9% in early afternoon European trading Thursday to 115.20 euros and are currently trading at a record high.
Siemens Energy is now targeting a profit margin before special items in fiscal 2028 of between 14% and 16%, compared with a previous target of 10% to 12%.
It is also aiming for compound annual revenue growth in the low-teen-percentage range, above a prior target of high-single-digit to low-double-digit growth.
The 2028 targets are about 25% higher than what the market had expected, with productivity gains and very tight supply demand the main drivers behind the upgrade, Barclays analysts said in a research note.
