Ford Partners with Amazon to Sell Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles Online
By Terell Wright
Ford said certified pre-owned vehicles will now be available for purchase on Amazon's website.
The Detroit-based auto company said customers can browse participating local dealers' certified pre-owned inventories on the e-commerce company's platform.
Customers will be able to secure financing options, complete most of the paperwork and schedule a time to pick up their selected vehicle on Amazon's website, the company said Monday.
Pre-owned vehicles are now available for purchase on Amazon Autos in Los Angeles, Seattle and Dallas, with plans to expand to more cities in the coming months.
While electric vehicle-maker Tesla has sold cars online for years, traditional automakers like Ford and Hyundai are required by many states to sell their vehicles through franchise dealers.
The company said about 160 to 180 dealers have expressed interest in the program and around 20 have already launched or will launch soon.
Ford is the second automaker to partner with Amazon to sell cars on its site. In 2023, Hyundai and Amazon announced a deal to sell the South Korean automaker's new vehicles on Amazon's site.
In August, rental car company Hertz partnered with Amazon to sell its used vehicles, allowing users to purchase cars in Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles and Seattle. The company plans to expand to 45 locations around the U.S.
