JBS 3Q Revenue Jumps on Demand for Protein

By Kelly Cloonan

JBS logged higher revenue in the third quarter, driven by growth across all of its business units.

The Brazilian meatpacking conglomerate on Thursday posted a profit of $644.1 million, or 52 cents a share, compared with $756.6 million, or 62 cents a share, a year earlier. Analysts surveyed by FactSet were looking for 50 cents a share.

Revenue jumped 13% to $22.6 billion, topping the $21.96 billion expected by analysts surveyed by FactSet.

The company's beef business in North America grew revenue by 15%, boosted by robust sales in the U.S. Its Pilgrim's Pride poultry brand recorded growth of 3.8%, helped by demand for chicken due to its strong value proposition, the company said.

JBS' Brazil, Australia, U.S. pork and Seara brand segments also posted growth.

Global Chief Executive Gilberto Tomazoni said the results reflect the strength and diversity of the company's global portfolio of proteins.
