MeiraGTx Shares Rise Premarket on Ophthalmology Collaboration With Eli Lilly
By Colin Kellaher
MeiraGTx Holdings shares rose sharply in premarket trading Monday after the clinical-stage genetic-medicines said it formed a ophthalmology collaboration potentially worth hundreds of millions of dollars with drugmaker Eli Lilly.
Shares of MeiraGTx, which closed Friday at $8.47, were recently up 15% to $9.74 in premarket trading.
MeiraGTx said it will receive an upfront payment of $75 million from Eli Lilly as part of the collaboration and will be eligible for more than $400 million in total milestone payments, along with royalties on licensed products.
The New York company said it will grant Eli Lilly worldwide exclusive rights to its AAV-AIPL1 program for treatment of one of the most severe inherited retinopathies and worldwide exclusive access rights to its gene-therapy technologies for use in ophthalmology with certain targets named by Lilly.
