By Adria Calatayud
Zurich Insurance Group said it achieved top-line growth across all its business lines for the first nine months of the year.
The Swiss insurer on Thursday said gross written premiums for its property-and-casualty division grew 8% on year to $38.92 billion for the first nine months of the year. Property-and-casualty insurance revenue was $35.80 billion, up 5% on a like-for-like basis.
Gross written premiums for its life division climbed 11% to $26.76 billion, with fee revenue generated by investment contracts up 17%.
At Farmers Exchanges--a group of policyholder-owned interinsurance exchanges in California that has contracts with Zurich--gross written premiums rose 5%. Zurich said policy-count growth accelerated in the third quarter.
"Momentum remains strong across all our businesses, driven by exceptional retail results, profitable premium growth in Life, and an accelerated increase in policy count at Farmers," Zurich Chief Financial Officer Claudia Cordioli said.
The insurer said it estimated its Swiss Solvency Test ratio--a measure of financial strength--at 257% as of Sept. 30 compared with 255% at June 30.
