By Nina Kienle
Ahold Delhaize reported an increase in sales for the third quarter, positively impacted by the acquisition of Profi.
The Dutch grocer--the owner of the Food Lion supermarket chain--said Wednesday that net profit for the three-month period rose to 584 million euros ($670.6 million) from 372 million euros in the same period the prior year, on sales that rose to 22.49 billion euros from 22 billion euros.
The figures beat analysts' forecast of net profit of 542 million and sales of 22.48 billion, according to a company-compiled consensus.
Underlying operating profit grew 9.1% to 933 million euros, with a margin that increased to 4.1% from 3.9%.
This compares with analysts' estimated 866 million euros with a margin of 3.9%, according to the same consensus.
The group, which also owns Giant grocery chains, backed its full-year outlook. It continues to target an underlying operating margin of around 4% and earnings per share growth in mid-to-high single-digit.
It also announced a 1 billion euro share-buyback program to start at the beginning of 2026.
