DTE Energy to Supply Energy for Oracle's Upcoming Michigan Data Center
By Dean Seal
DTE Energy on Friday detailed its agreement to provide energy for Oracle's multibillion-dollar data center campus coming to southeast Michigan.
The Detroit utility said Friday that its board has approved primary supply and energy storage agreements with an Oracle subsidiary, under which it will provide about 1.4 gigawatts of electric service to the future facility.
The supply deal runs through February 2024, with options for an extension. Electric service will ramp over time and reach full delivery in December 2027.
As part of the storage agreement, DTE will build storage capacity for the 1.4 gigawatts and operate the storage facility for at least 15 years.
Developer Related Cos. struck a deal with DTE and Oracle to build a more than $7 billion data-center campus on farmland outside Detroit, according to a report from the Wall Street Journal. Technology giants are in a race to secure massive amounts of power needed for their data center projects, giving utility companies a major role in the artificial intelligence boom.
