Ferrovial's Highways Business Drives Revenue, Earnings Growth

By Joshua Kirby

Ferrovial said strong growth in its U.S. highways business spurred increased earnings over the first nine months of the year.

The European infrastructure group, which operates highways and airports alongside a construction business, made 1.03 billion euros ($1.20 billion) in adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization in the year through September. That represents growth of 4.8% compared with the same period last year. Profit was boosted by a 14% leap in revenue in the highways division, especially in North America, Ferrovial said late Tuesday.

The American express-lanes business booked growth in revenue per transaction that outpaced inflation, while earnings also rose at the group's Canada operations, Ferrovial said. Total group revenue climbed 6.2% over the period to 6.91 billion euros.

"We're excited by the strong momentum across our business divisions and the growth opportunities ahead," Chief Executive Ignacio Madridejos said.

Amsterdam-listed shares in the company, which is also listed on the Nasdaq, rose 1.2% in morning trade to 53.74 euros.
