Nvidia, Lucid Team Up for Autonomous EVs
By Kelly Cloonan
Nvidia and Lucid are teaming up to integrate the chipmaker's autonomous driving platform into the technology company's electric vehicles.
Lucid said Tuesday the partnership positions it to ultimately offer privately owned passenger vehicles with Level 4 autonomous driving capabilities, or what it calls the "first true eyes-off, hands-off, and mind-off" consumer-owned AVs.
Lucid expects to use Nvidia's multi-sensor features including cameras, radar and lidar for Level 4 capabilities.
Under the partnership, Lucid will first offer Level 2 autonomous capabilities including eyes-on, point-to-point driving for its Gravity model and upcoming midsize vehicles, it said.
Lucid has previously worked to offer autonomous capabilities with an internally developed driver assistance system that launched on its Air model in 2021. The system recently added hands-free driving and hands-free lane change capabilities through an over-the-air software update.
