By Freddy Sebastian

Waste Management's revenue gained in the latest third quarter but expects it at the low end of its previous guidance for the year, blaming more declines in recycled commodity pricing.

The garbage and recycling company posted a profit of $603 million, or $1.49 a share, for the three months ended Sept. 30, down from $760 million, or $1.88 a share, a year earlier.

On an adjusted basis, the company reported earnings of $1.98 a share. Analysts polled by FactSet expected adjusted earnings of $2.02 a share.

Shares fell 2.1% to $209.26 in afterhours trading on Monday.

Revenue for the quarter climbed to $6.44 billion from $5.61 billion. Analysts were expecting revenue of $6.50 billion.

Through the first nine months of the year, the company generated $4.35 billion of net cash from operating activities, up 12% from a year earlier, while free cash flow came in at $2.11 billion, up 13.5%.

For fiscal 2025, Waste Management said it expects total revenue at $25.28 billion, at the low end of its previous guidance, compared with analysts' estimates of $25.35 billion.

The company is estimating free cash flow at $2.8 billion to $2.9 billion for the year.
