NatWest Lifts Guidance Again After Strong Customer Activity Boosts Quarter
By Elena Vardon
NatWest Group raised its revenue and profitability guidance for the second time this year after strong customer activity helped its third-quarter results top market expectations.
The U.K. high-street bank said operating pretax profit jumped 30% on year to 2.18 billion pounds ($2.91 billion) for the three months ended Sept. 30. Analysts had expected 1.83 billion pounds, according to a company-compiled consensus.
The lender reported a 16% increase in total income to 4.33 billion pounds, beating a 4.10 billion-pound forecast.
NatWest, which is known for issuing conservative financial targets, said it now expects total income excluding notable items for 2025 to come in around 16.3 billion pounds as loan growth and structural hedges continue to mitigate the impact of interest-rate cuts by the Bank of England. This compares with its previous guidance of income greater than 16.0 billion pounds, and current analysts' expectations of 16.22 billion pounds.
The London-listed group also raised its annual return on tangible equity forecast--a key measure of profitability--to more than 18.0%, after reporting a better-than-expected third-quarter return of 22.3%. Previous guidance was for a return greater than 16.5%, while consensus pencils in 17.3% for the year.
