Waste Connections 3Q Revenue Rises

By Kelly Cloonan

Waste Connections logged higher revenue in its latest quarter due to growth in its solid collection and energy and gas waste businesses.

The waste services company on Tuesday posted a profit of $286.3 million, or $1.11 a share, compared with $308 million, or $1.19 a share, a year earlier.

Adjusted earnings per share were $1.44, ahead of estimates of $1.37 a share according to analysts polled by FactSet.

Revenue rose to $2.46 billion compared with $2.34 billion a year ago. Analysts expected $2.42 billion.

The increase was driven by growth in the company's solid waste collection unit and oil- and gas-related waste treatment, recovery and disposal segment.

The company's margins also got a boost in the quarter from a step down in employee turnover and new record-low safety incident rates, along with strong pricing retention, Chief Executive Ronald Mittelstaedt said.

For the full year, the company continues to expect revenue of $9.45 billion and net income of about $1.14 billion.
