German Auto Group Warns Nexperia Situation Poses Production Risk

The Dutch government's recent seizure of chip company Nexperia from its Chinese owner could disrupt vehicle production in the near term, German auto industry group VDA warned Tuesday.
The Dutch government said earlier this month that it seized control of Nexperia from China's Wingtech Technology, citing risks to economic security. Nexperia makes basic transistors and chips used in vehicles and consumer products.
"The situation could lead to significant production restrictions in the near future, and possibly even production stoppages, if the supply disruption of Nexperia chips cannot be resolved in the short term," VDA said.
The statement echoes similar comments from European carmaker group ACEA last week.
VDA said it has been in contact with the affected companies, the German government, and the European Union regarding the situation.
