Hermes Names Grace Wales Bonner Menswear Creative Chief Amid Luxury Sector Reshuffle

By Andrea Figueras

Hermes appointed Grace Wales Bonner as its new creative director of men's ready-to-wear collections amid a wider creative reshuffle in the luxury industry.

The Birkin bag maker said Tuesday that the British designer will present her debut show in January 2027. She will replace Veronique Nichanian, who Hermes said would step down after nearly four decades on the role

Wales Bonner, founder and artistic director of her namesake brand, has developed a contemporary and innovative approach to menswear over the last 10 years, the group said. "Her take on contemporary fashion, craft and culture will contribute to shaping Hermes men's style," it added. The designer has also collaborated with the German sporting-goods company Adidas.

In a bid to win back shoppers amid shrinking demand for luxuries, a number of high-end fashion houses have reshuffled their creative teams.

Some freshly appointed designers have already made their runway debuts, such as Gucci's creative chief Demna Gvasalia, while others will do so early next year. French luxury giant LVMH recently appointed former Dior creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri as chief creative officer of Fendi. She will present her first collection for the Italian brand in Milan next February.
