EU Exports to U.S. Drop Sharply

By Ed Frankl

European Union goods exports to the U.S. tumbled in August after the agreement of a tariff deal that ramped up duties on most goods from the economic bloc.

Exports to the U.S. were down 26% on month to 32.9 billion euros, or $38.3 billion, Eurostat data showed Thursday. Compared with the same month of last year, they were down 22% in August, it said.

The EU and U.S. agreed late July to a 15% tariff on most goods imports into the U.S.

Seasonally adjusted exports overall from the European Union decreased by 1.2% on month in August compared with July, statistics agency Eurostat said Thursday. Imports fell by a larger 2.1%.
