Sweden's Investor AB Registers Total Shareholder Return of 5%
By Dominic Chopping
STOCKHOLM--Investor AB posted a total shareholder return of 5% in the third quarter compared with 8% in the prior-year period.
The company said Thursday that it took advantage of attractive valuation levels to invest 540 million Swedish kronor ($57 million) in Ericsson during the quarter, increasing its ownership to 9.9%.
It also invested 593 million kronor in Atlas Copco, increasing its stake to 17.1%, and entered a contract to sell 5 million shares in Swedish bank SEB. The contract will be settled in the fourth quarter, with expected proceeds of around 900 million kronor.
Chief Executive Christian Cederholm said it is disturbing to see that trade friction continues to increase, but Investor AB's portfolio companies are focusing on cost efficiency and investing in future-proofing their businesses.
"The current environment offers opportunities to further strengthen the positions of our companies and Investor itself, underpinning our ability to continue generating an attractive total return."
Investor AB's net asset value per share rose to 294 kronor at the end of September from 274 kronor at the end of June. On an adjusted basis, NAV per share stood at 336 kronor, while net profit attributable to shareholders rose to 59.83 billion kronor in the third quarter from 12.8 billion kronor a year earlier as the value of its investments increased.
