Apple to Offer iPad Pro, MacBook Pro Models With AI-Geared Chip
By Kelly Cloonan
Apple plans to sell iPad Pro and MacBook Pro models featuring its new artificial intelligence-geared chip.
The iPhone maker said Wednesday its new M5 chip enables graphics processing unit-based AI workloads to run faster, with more than four times the peak GPU compute performance compared to its previous-generation chip.
The MacBook Pro with the M5 chip has a faster solid-state drive performance than the previous generation, accelerating tasks such as importing image files or exporting large videos, Apple said. The 14-inch model starts at $1,599 in the U.S.
The iPad Pro with the M5 chip includes the latest generation of Apple's wireless technologies with support for Wi-Fi 7, the company said. It comes in 11-inch and 13-inch sizes, starting at $999 and $1,299, respectively, in the U.S.
The models are available for pre-order starting Wednesday and will be available in stores starting Oct. 22.
