America Movil 3Q Profit Jumps on Higher Revenue, Lower Financial Costs
By Anthony Harrup
MEXICO CITY--America Movil's net profit more than tripled in the third quarter as the telecommunications company benefited from lower financial costs combined with higher revenue and operating gains.
The company reported a net profit of 22.7 billion Mexican pesos ($1.23 billion) for the July-September period, up from MXN6.43 billion in the year-earlier quarter. Profit was equivalent to MXN0.38 a share, or 40 cents an American depositary receipt.
Revenue increased 4.2%, to MXN232.92 billion, and was up 6.2% in constant-currency terms. Mobile-service revenue grew 7.1%, its fastest pace in more than a year. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization--a measure of profitability--rose by 4.9%, to MXN93.82 billion, and operating profit rose 5.6%, to MXN50.12 billion.
Financial costs fell by more than half, largely due to a foreign-exchange gain compared with an exchange loss in the third quarter of 2024.
America Movil added 3.1 million mobile subscribers in the quarter, to end September with 328.8 million, while subscriptions to fixed-line services increased by 395,000, to 78.9 million. Additions of 526,000 broadband subscribers, led by Mexico, were partially offset by loss of voice lines and TV subscriptions.
