By Ronnie Harui
Seven & i Holdings' net profit more than doubled in the second quarter, partly bolstered by stronger earnings at its convenience-store businesses in Japan and overseas.
The 7-Eleven owner said Thursday that second-quarter net profit rose to 72.79 billion yen, equivalent to $476.69 million, from Y30.85 billion for the same period a year earlier. That beat the estimate of Y59.6 billion in a poll of analysts by data provider Visible Alpha.
Revenue for the three months ended Aug. 31 decreased to Y4.523 trillion from Y4.998 trillion a year earlier. That beat the estimate of Y3.017 trillion in a poll of analysts by Visible Alpha.
Operating profit for the overseas convenience-store business rose to Y71.44 billion in the second quarter from Y68.85 billion a year earlier, while that of the domestic convenience-store business increased to Y67.26 billion from Y66.46 billion.
Seven & i adjusted its earnings forecasts for the fiscal year that began in March. It now sees net profit of Y265.00 billion, up from Y255.00 billion previously, but expects revenue of Y17.086 trillion, down from the Y17.338 trillion expected previously.
