BASF in Talks to Sell Coatings Unit to Carlyle in $8.2 Billion Deal, FT Says, Citing Sources

--German chemical group BASF is in exclusive talks with U.S. private equity firm Carlyle to sell its coatings business in a roughly 7 billion euro ($8.22 billion) deal, the Financial Times reports, citing unnamed sources.

--The auction process that BASF has been running for the sale of the unit drew interest from other private equity firms such as KPS Capital Partners, the FT reports.

--The unit employs more than 10,300 people and makes around 3.8 billion euros in annual sales.

--BASF and Carlyle declined to comment to the FT.
